Muscat, Oman

Our next stop was Oman where we decided just to take the cruise shuttle in to the Muttrah Souk (the local market). Someone on the ship had told us that Oman and Dubai will be the complete opposite of India and it was.  The town the ship came in to was called Muscat and it had mountain surrounding it. All the buildings are off white except for a few that were blue or gold. We walked into the covered souk where the main things to buy were shawls, carpets and jewellery. We didn’t get hassled as much as we did in India and were able to look at bit more. The souk just went on and on with little alley ways off to the side that would lead to houses. We tried to find a mosque through the alleys but ended up giving up because it was too confusing. Of course we ended up finding the entrance on the main road but decided not to go in as some temples are only for people who practice Islam so we didn’t want to chance it. Otherwise we just walked around the area and looked at the architecture. We also saw the Sultan’s yacht in port which was neat to see. We ended up going back to the ship early because it was so hot out and we were told to wear pants to follow in their tradition of how they dress. It would have been nice to see more of the city and definitely a place we would go back to.
